The American Express Platinum Card is a charge card that is designed to rewards those for making purchases with their card. The card offers a variety of ways for members to earn points as well as bonus points. Points can be redeemed for just about anything, including travel, gift certificates, etc. This card requires members to pay off the full balance each month and this card is reserved for those with excellent credit.
Rates and Fees
With the American Express Platinum Card the full balance is due each month without exception. Each month you receive your statement you must pay the balance in full. The card has an annual membership fee of $450 per year. The foreign transaction fee is 2.7% of each transaction after conversion to U.S. dollars. The late fee is $35, but if you do not pay your bill for two consecutive billing periods the fee will be $35 or 2.99% of the past due amount, which ever is greater. Since the full balance is due each month this card does not charge interest unless your account becomes past due.
Membership Rewards Program
With the Membership Rewards Program you earn one point for every one dollar you spend. There is no limit to the amount of points you can earn and your points do not expire. You can earn up to 10X points in the membershiprewards.com Earn Points section and you can earn 3X points when you shop through the Bonus Points Mall® website. You can even earn points by setting up automatic bill pay and by adding authorized users to your account. The rewards program is a built in feature to the card but you should log into your online account to make sure you card is enrolled in the program.
Redeeming Your Points
You can redeem Membership Rewards points for a variety of rewards at membershiprewards.com or you can check out the products offered online at shopamex.com, where you can use points or if you don’t have enough points, you can use points in combination with your eligible American Express® Card. You can pay for all or part of your next trip using Membership Rewards points. Fly any airline anytime with no blackout dates or seat restrictions or you can use your points for exciting travel reward certificates, including hotel stays, flights, theme parks, adventure travel, or car rentals. You access your online account and on the Points Summary Page, you can access and updates your Membership Rewards account information and monitor your account balance and review your rewards history.
