PNC CashBuilder Visa Credit Card: Flat 1.75% Cash Back Possible

Today PNC announced a new line of checking accounts and credit cards with cash back and rewards that increase based on the customer’s banking relationship. The new credit cards include the PNC CashBuilder Visa, PNC Points Visa and PNC Flex Visa.

For cashback fans, the PNC CashBuilder Visa is of particular interest. It earns a flat 1.25% cash back on all net purchases and a 1.75% rebate during the first billing cycle.

After the intro period is over, however, there are ways to boost the 1.25% rebate. You can either earn more based on either your spending in a billing cycle or the extent of your banking relationship with PNC.

If you spend between $2,000 and $4,000 in a billing cycle, you’ll earn a 1.5% rebate in your next billing cycle. If you spend over $4,000 in a billing cycle, your purchases in the next billing cycle will earn rewards of 1.75%.

MBNA customers face credit card fiasco

Some MBNA customers are about to have their credit card cancelled after their details fell into the hands of fraudsters.

Cards will become inactive on February 17, but customers may have to wait up to 11 days for a replacement card and Pin.

MBNA, which has five million British customers and is part of Bank of America, refuses to say how many customers are affected, but has written to cardholders this week.

Experts point out the move could be particularly inconvenient if the customer is on holiday and does not realise their card is about to be cancelled.

In a further headache, those affected must re-register their new card for online banking and notify any companies that take payments from their card.

MBNA insists that only card numbers not personal information such as names and addresses may have been compromised and the replacement cards are being issued as a precautionary measure.

Ever heard of Lush, the handmade cosmetic company that sells all sorts of interesting bath and shower products? Their UK website was recently hacked and may have exposed the credit card information of every customer that purchased a product online between October 2010 and January 2011.

Once customers started posting on Lush’s Facebook page that their stolen credit cards had been used to make unauthorized purchases, the company eventually decided to shut down the entire UK site and issue an email on January 21st notifying everyone that was potentially exposed to the breach.
